Center for Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding
Frontier Ocean established the Center for Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding (CAGB) to conduct innovative research in support of aquaculture seed development. Its goal is to apply frontier breeding technologies and develop superior seed to support marine aquaculture. It currently focuses on genetics and breeding of marine shellfish species of aquaculture importance such as oysters, scallops, abalone, clams, mussels, sea cucumber and sea urchins. CAGB is located in Qingdao Laoshan National Scenic Park. It has over 5000 square meters of research hatchery space and well-equipped laboratories for shellfish genetics and breeding research. CAGB has a staff of 20 who work closely with scientists at Institute of Oceanology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ocean University of China, Yellow Sea Fishery Research Institute, Fisheries Research Institute of Fujian and Shandong Marine Biology Institute. CAGB provides hatchery support for students and researchers from other institutions and serves as a platform for academia-industry collaborations.
